Saliva Drug Tests

Our society contains many positive things such as young children, kittens, the first snowfall of winter and innocent babies.  We often associate these things as being pure.  We all begin our life as pure beings that are changed by our life experiences - some which are positive and some which are negative.

For some people, part of the bad experiences involves using illegal drugs.  This is why many amateur and professional athletes are required to undergo random drug testing before and after competing in sports.  Many Olympic athletes must also submit to random daily drug tests during the games.

Amateur and professional athletes can’t take caffeine while competing.  This means they must avoid tea, coffee and chocolate because caffeine can be detected by testing a sample of hair, saliva, sweat or urine.  Although the urine test remains the quickest and most common method of drug testing, a saliva drug test can also be used.

Drug testing involves closely examining sweat, oral fluid, saliva, blood, urine or hair samples to determine if specific drugs or their metabolized traces are present.  Individuals must provide a urine sample for professional testing during a urine drug test.  A test card may be used if immediate results are required or the urine sample may be sent to a lab for analysis.

A saliva drug test can often determine the use of illegal drugs taking during the last few days.  The test is also becoming more popular because it can’t be easily altered and it is very convenient.  Many employers require prospective employees to undergo a saliva or urine drug test before accepting them to the company.  Therefore, you may end up having to take one of these tests at some point in your life.
